WHY:
At Big Brain Box kids are not just the leaders of tomorrow but the leaders of today.
Problem: Complicated language and formalities can form a mote around a Board of Directors. Many smart and amazing people are denied access.
Solution: Here at Big Brain Box we are about removing the barriers to leadership many people face. We wish to radically redefine what spaces of power look like so that they are diverse, inclusive, smart, (and fun!).
HOW:
Program sessions [aka Board Meetings] are designed to meet both the academic and social needs of the Kid Directors. This allows kids' natural leadership skills to develop so that they become authentic, insightful, and fully self expressed leaders.
Toy companies sponsor the Board of Kid Directors program.
The first 8 Weeks is a free (to kids) leadership program.
The final 4 weeks is a "leadership-in-practice" program. This segment of the program is an opportunity for toy companies to engage our Kid Directors for thoughtful, insightful, and authentic feedback. Kid Directors are compensated for their time and expertise in the final 4 weeks.
A Note on Compensation:
Compensation is dependent on securing a sponsor for each program. If a program remains un-sponsored the last 4 weeks will be a free Business Leadership training. Kid Leaders will practice entrepreneurial skills such as branding, marketing, and product development.
Because we are a brand new organization compensation will be in the form of gift cards for the first few rounds of programing. This is until we have capacity to administer formal pay.
Rachel G. Barnard is the founder and CEO of Big Brain Box—a kid led play company.
She has designed and facilitated 100s of leadership programs for 1,000s of young people to step into their greatness and contribute powerfully to the world around them.
In a previous life as the founder of Young New Yorkers (YNY) Rachel created the first arts-based Alternative to Incarceration program in NYC and assisted over 1,400 young people to exit the criminal legal system. In this role she partnered with—and created programs for—multiple criminal legal agencies including NYC Criminal Courts, Kings County DA's Office, NYC Department of Probation, and the New York Police Department.
